In this video, I share a classic example of why property or any business ‘freedom’ still requires sacrifice. It was recorded during a normal working weekend in London, while the Notting Hill Carnival was happening right underneath me.

It wasn’t planned content or a polished talk, just a moment of reflection while juggling work commitments, investor conversations, and the reality of running a property business. What I was thinking about at the time wasn’t productivity in the usual sense, but the trade-offs that come with long-term freedom. These are the decisions people don’t see—the moments where time management stops being about balance and starts being about choosing what matters most, even when something more enjoyable is right in front of you.

WHAT PROPERTY CAN GIVES YOU (AND WHAT IT DOESN’T)

Property is often sold as freedom, and in many ways, it is. It gives you flexibility, optionality, and control over how you structure your time in the long run. Because of this, I can train, travel, and be present in ways I couldn’t when I was tied to fixed hours.

However, property doesn’t remove responsibility or switch pressure off; it simply changes the shape of it. Instead of a boss, you have timelines, tenants, builders, and sourcing property deals that don’t politely wait until Monday morning. WHEN SPEED MATTERS MORE THAN COMFORT

One of the biggest misunderstandings about time management is the idea that you always get to choose the moment. In reality, opportunities rarely arrive at convenient times. Momentum builds whether you’re ready or not.

In property especially, speed often matters more than perfect conditions. This means being prepared to act when the window opens, not when it feels comfortable. This is precisely why professional property sourcing only works when decisions are prepared in advance.

SACRIFICE AS A STRATEGIC DECISION

Missing events, delaying gratification, and choosing work over leisure in specific moments aren’t signs of imbalance if they are conscious decisions. Stepping away from the music to deal with work isn’t about being busy for the sake of it; it’s about choosing alignment over impulse.

The same thinking applies to overseeing property refurbishments and managing projects without losing control. I know what I am building, and I know why certain moments require attention now rather than later.

CONSISTENCY OVER ONE-OFF WINS

Financial freedom isn’t built on one good deal, one lucky break, or one inspired decision. It’s built on consistency. Repeating sensible behaviour when no one is watching. Making broadly good decisions more often than bad ones.

WHY THIS MATTERS FOR INVESTORS AND SOURCERS

The relationship between investors and sourcers only works when both sides understand the pressure points. Speed, timing, and sacrifice apply to everyone involved.

Good sourcing is about shared judgement and knowing when to act. That is why experience matters, and why working with the right property consultants on the ground changes outcomes far more than spreadsheets alone.

The real lesson here isn’t about time management in the traditional sense; it’s about honesty. It is about knowing what you’re optimising for and accepting the trade-offs that come with it.
